“Macala”
Maria Clara Trujillo, known artistically as Macala, was born in Bogota, Colombia. She is the daughter of the renowned painter Sergio Trujillo Magnenat and the ceramist Sara Davila, growing up immersed in a world of artistic expression and creative exploration.
Macala began painting in 1986, drawing from the deep artistic heritage of her family while developing a distinctive voice of her own. Her first exhibition took place in 1990, marking the beginning of a prolific career that has spanned decades and continents.
Her body of work encompasses a rich variety of media and techniques, including oils, acrylics, watercolors, and mixed media. She moves fluidly between figurative and abstract styles, finding inspiration in landscapes, portraits, and the interplay of color and form.
Each piece reflects a deeply personal connection to her subjects, whether capturing the vibrant light of a Colombian landscape, the quiet intensity of a portrait, or the emotional resonance of abstract composition. Her work invites viewers to pause, reflect, and discover layers of meaning within every brushstroke.
